It does not matter if the card is a decent card that comes at a cheaper price, there are situations that you should not even bother considering getting a GTX 1050 or a GTX 1050 Ti. And these situations are (but are not limited to):
- If you are looking to stream PC games.
- If you decide to game at a higher resolution than 1080p.
- If you are a video editor that will use the GPU in the rendering process.
- If you like to play your games on Ultra graphics settings and or play at 100+ FPS.
It is not a bad idea to want to play at super high frame rates these days. 144Hz and 165Hz monitors are very common and more affordable than they have ever being, and at a resolution of 1080p, even the 240Hz monitors are flooding the markets. Apart from the most simplified titles, any GTX 1050 is probably not a good fit for any of these.
Also, if you know that you plan on going above 1080p, then you will do well to look elsewhere. The best part, the sweet spot for great gaming is the GTX 1070 while it hits 4K, you will be required to upgrade from the 1070 to the GTX 1080 or the GTX 1080 Ti.
The GTX 1050 may seem to be a bit restrictive for content creators. If you are one of those who like to stream their games, it is okay if you will be streaming majorly console games, but it wouldn’t be so when you will be playing and streaming PC games from the same computer. Also, if you will be using GPU to render videos, you might need to save up so you can afford to get something much better in terms of performance.
The GTX 1050 is perfect in lower-cost gaming laptops, great for esport games, like the League of Legends and CS:GO and it also has more punch than one would expect in some more intensive games.
The only time when the GTX 1050 might disappoint might be if you have a desire to play games that require something higher than it. If you will be combining the GTX 1050 with the 1440p or 4K display to play your game with, then you would have to reconsider that idea. If you will be using it to play PC games and stream them from that same PC, you should look into buying something that has the strength to handle that task, and this also goes for those who want to use it for video editing.
