The 6.6L Best Duramax Tuner – Diesel Duramax
LB7
The LB7 applications are the Chevrolet Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD, medium duty GMC Topkick, and the medium duty Chevrolet Kodiak. The main problem with the LB7 is the injector failure which was quite frequent.
LLY
In 2004, the LLY kicked out the LB7, where it continued to be produced until the year 2006. The LLY was seen in the Chevrolet Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD, Hummer H1, Chevrolet Kodiak, and the GMC Topkick models. This was the first emission controlled Duramax which was integrated with the Allison 1000 5 speed or the ZF 6 speed manual transmission.
LBZ
The 6.6L Duramax LBZ came as a replacement to the LLY, but it did not last for a long time. The LBZ can be found in the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, HD, Chevrolet Kodiak, and the GMC Topkick. The LBZ is referred to as the aftermarket hot rod, and it is the last model that was produced without a diesel particulate filter.
LMM
The LMM was released mid-2007 model year, replacing the LBZ. The LMM came with a new diesel particulate system requirement that supplied an active regeneration so it could regularly clean the DPF by literally burning the collected material.
LML
The Duramax LML was released in 2011. The latest version of the 6.6L Duramax comes with advanced emissions equipment, that uses diesel exhaust fluid injection to reduce nitrogen oxide emission levels by 63 percent over the previous LMM power trucks. The LML is known to only use 60 percent of its newly designed components. These components include an upgraded engine block casting, oil pump, high strength pistons, and connecting rods, main bearing design, and re-routed oil passage circuit.
L5P
The L5P is the latest model that was introduced in the year 2017. The L5P gives 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. The Duramax L5P replaced the LML for the 2017 model year Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra HD pickups. This model gives 48 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque more than the LML.
