Steps to Fix Popped Screws/Nails on Drywall
STEP 1
You can choose to extract or re-drive the screw or nail. If the nail or screw is in any way damaged, you will need to extract it. If you are using a nail, use the claw of the hammer to take out the nail. However, If you are using a screw, you may be able to use a hammer too. If you cannot, make use of a screw extractor to take it out.
STEP 2
If you are re-driving a nail, use a nail set, Place the nail set above the nail and nudge it firmly inside with the help of the hammer.
If you have taken this advice and gotten one of our best drywall screw guns, now is the time to use it. Drive a screw (or a nail as the case may be) into the spot that the other one was dug out from. You will still need to drive another screw or nail into the drywall about two inches below (or above) it. The purpose is to reinforce the screws and to release the pressure on the other screw or nail. That is to say that both screws (or nails) should be firmly rooted inside.
STEP 3
Finally, coat the area with spackling compound and leave to dry. When it is dried, rub the area with sandpaper. However, If you notice that the spackling paste needs to be applied again, do so.
STEP 4
Paint the area to smoothly finish it.
