It is not as simple, or is it, as that. Well, it is and isn’t, and this is dependent on the exact type of gaming that you are going for.
The NVIDIA’s 10 series are a great upgrade from what was available before it. The Pascal Cards are a true leap forward at both the top and bottom end of the range. And while you can easily get carried away by the GTX 1080 Ti or the $3,000 Titan V, you should not so easily forget the mass market cards that are available at the lower end of the price bracket. You can check A Review of GTX 1050 Ti here.
The newly introduced entry level for gaming from NVIDIA is the GTX 1050, and the question is, is this upgrade worth your time and money? The answer depends on exactly what it is that you want to do with it.
Its Cost and Features
In today’s gaming-catered market, there are two types of the GTX 1050, there is one with 2 GB of VRAM and the 1050 Ti with 4 GB of VRAM. In some laptops, you might be given an option of using the GTX 1050, but for the most part, the Ti has taken the place of the higher-spec base model.
When it comes to price, you should be looking around $150 from Gigabyte with 2 GB; while a 4 GB GTX 1050 Ti would cost you a bit more, say around $199, and that is if you are looking to get a Zotac model.
Both cards share most features like their support for NVIDIA Ansel, and both of them will give you a tear-free gaming to a connected G-Sync display. Basically, the GTX 1050 will do better in games, only this will come at a high price.
Great for Budget Gaming Laptops
One of the many good things about the 10 series GPU is that there aren’t any dedicated mobile variants. The laptop version will not give you as much power as the desktop cards, but for the most part, it is the same GPU, something you can throw in your bag.
If you are in the market for a budget gaming laptop, the 2 GB GTX 1050 Ti could, most probably, give you a better time than an older laptop with a last generation GPU. And apart from the great performance that this card provides, the 10 series GPUs are, typically, more efficient, which is a very important thing to look out for in laptops especially.
