One of the well-known disadvantages of drywall is that it is not extremely durable. If your drywall develops a hole in it, it can look quite ugly. You can fix up a hole in your drywall with these steps.
What You Need
- A patch of drywall large enough to cover the hole
- Measurement rule or tape
- Saw (a drywall saw if you have)
- Knife Hot glue/ joint compound
- Sandpaper
- Primer and paint
Steps to Fix a Hole in Drywall
- Step 1: Purchase or obtain a drywall sheet that is of the same type and thickness as the one on your wall. Local hardware stores will sell a piece of the size you need.
- Step 2: Measure the piece of drywall you have. It should be at least five inches larger than your hole on all sides. Separate about one inch of paper from the gypsum from each side of the sheet with a knife. Do not cut off the paper. You want to be able to cut off the gypsum. Your end result should be a piece of drywall with extra paper at the sides.
- Step 3 Place the patch over the hole and trace it out on the wall. Do not include the extra paper in your tracing. Use your saw or knife to cut damaged potion. It does not have to be exact.
- Step 4: Place your patch over the wall to ensure it covers up and that you did not mess it up. Make use of a tough glue or joint compound such as hot glue to hold the extra paper left out to the drywall. Place it carefully and hold it down. If you make use of strong glue, it will stick in a minute. When it is stable, apply the glue on the wall around the area where the hole was previously. When it is dried, smoothen with sandpaper. You can now go on to paint and prime the area.
